Knowledge gained
- Practical knowledge This section focused on applying the knowledge gained from the course.
- HTML + CSS + JS + Bootstrap
- During Software Academy, the trainee began developing a project from scratch. Each time a new technology was introduced, new tasks were assigned to the ongoing project to practice and apply the newly acquired skills.
- Theoretical knowledge In this portion of the training, the trainees covered the fundamentals of: HTML, CSS, Git, JavaScript, Bootstrap, PHP, and MySQL.
- CSS
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in HTML or XML (including XML dialects such as SVG, MathML or XHTML).
- Git
- Setup and configuration, getting and creating projects, basic snapshotting, branching and merging, sharing and updating projects
- HTML
- History, Data communication for WWW, anatomy of an HTML element & document, attributes, special characters and comments, metadata, text fundamentals, hyperlinks, Advanced text formatting, debugging, images in HTML, video and audio content, embedding technologies, adding vector graphics, responsive images, table basics and advanced features.
- JavaScript
- Introduction in JavaScript, variables, numbers & operators, strings, arrays, building blocks, objects (OOP), asynchronous JS, client-side web APIs and an introduction in libraries & frameworks.
- PHP + MySQL + Laravel
- During the PHP course, we provided a brief introduction to the language, covering fundamental concepts like syntax, data types, building blocks, and sessions. Given PHP's strong integration with MySQL, we included a crash course on MySQL, covering basic queries, subqueries, stored procedures, views, and indexes to showcase the capabilities of SQL databases. The trainees then connected a PHP application to a MySQL database, performing CRUD operations. Then we continued with Laravel, where we learned how its robust MVC architecture facilitates a clear separation of logic, presentation, and data management. We also delved into Eloquent ORM, which simplifies database interactions, and the Blade templating engine, which enhances front-end development with reusable components. Additionally, we explored how Laravel's built-in tools, such as Artisan and its comprehensive support for RESTful APIs, streamline and optimize the development workflow.
- Soft Skills The trainers place great importance on non-technical skills, as they believe these are crucial for a successful software developer.
- Soft skills
- During the Software Academy program, the trainers carefully observed and assessed the trainees' non-technical skills throughout the training. This process was transparent, and we made sure to communicate areas for improvement along the way. The resulting soft skills grade was based on the following criteria: Communication, Cultural fit, Work ethic, Teamwork and collaboration, Leadership, Growth potential, Prioritization, Adaptability and Problem-solving
